Advice on dismantling front struts

Pretty sure there are Only two types of struts. 45 and 51 mm.

For a 1977 318 he wants the 45mm.

There was no 318i until 08/1980...

There are however early and late versions of control arms, front subframe and arb. These need to match. Change happened 10/1978.
