New M20b23

Post by Oz E21 »

Hello all,

A quick query, I've got an opportunity to buy a brand new (as in never ever used) m20b23 that comes with seemingly everything that attaches to it not including gearbox and exhaust. It has all the coolant hoses, fuel hoses, alternator, starter motor, intakes, etc...

Given this engine was assembled 30+ years ago, would it need a complete overhaul given that it's just been sitting in some warehouse on a shelf?

Weel, all depends on the price, wether it's a good buy or not. Make very sure it really is a new one and not a refubished one. Once you are sure it is a new one, turn the crank, by using a spanner on the central bolt. If it turns, it might be in ok shape.

Then look at the hoses. Since they are 30+ years old, I'm pretty sure you need to get those replaced. Even when they look good, I don't think the are going to last very long. Also replace the distributionbelt and other belts. I think I would change the waterpump aswell.

For the right price it might be a great find.
