Hi guys.
I have found this gearbox that comes out of a E21 showcar. I am very confused. It looks like its a 4 speed as it does not have the 5th overdrive extra on the rear. On the other hand it has the reverse light switch on the back like the 5 speed CR gearbox and as i understand it the 4 speed has the reverse light switch on the side instead. It also has the M60 stamp on the side so it should be for a m20 engine.
The seller says it comes out of a E21 showcar, but he also mentions that the gearbox will fit a m30 ? Is it a Getrag 260 box from a 5,6 or 7 series ?
Hope you guys can help clear up this mystery.

Re: Gearbox identification (please help)
No one with an idea ?
Been looking at it again, it seems to be missing the speedo drive wich could indicate that its not an E21 box, but the 260getrag from the E30 also has the rear light switch on the side, and a tighter "mesh" on the cast housing.
I was wondering if it could be some M30 alpina stuff, but then again it has the M60 brand and should be for the M20..
I am really baffled...

Standard 4-speed gearbox 320/6,323i (up to 9/80) or 520/6 (up to 9/80). Nothing special.

Oh okay then. Thanks. Just thought that the normal 4 speed had the reverse light switch on the side, but is that just for the M10 then?

Older boxes (up to 9/80, 4-arm output flange ) have reverse light switch on back.
Newer boxes (3-arm output flange) have reverse light switch on side/upside.
