Calipers

Post by dr3wid »

Hi All

Im having trouble tracking down 2 front calipers for my 316 (1983, facelift model) here in the UK. Does anyone have a reliable stockist or website?

Thanks

Thanks chaps.

Yes I was working through the suppliers directory with not much joy. It seems the 316 facelift brakes are different as they include a sensor? Big red looked somewhat out of action as their shop is down for maintenance. I will drop them a line.

Thanks again!

arent the sensor's part of the brake pad's themselves or are they somehow part of the calipers in your 316? only ever seen them as part of the pads. have 2 different set's here in my garage (oem bmw e21 facelift brembos and e21 facelift girling's and both just have the sensors part of the brake pads)

Yup, with all possible models (Até, Girling, Brembo, TRW-Lucas) the brake wear sensor is hooked up to the pad , not the caliper. In my opinion any facelift non-vented caliper will do as long as you take 2 from the same brand :P . Pair of decent used ones can't be too hard to find either and neither are overhaul kits.

Hi,
I assume you will get original ATE calipers, used ones. It is highly recomended to use origininal ATE overhaul kits, the aftermarket ones really don't fit well. Also do the whole work and open the caliper halfs, to clean the connection channels with compressed air. They often cause the main problem of sticky pistons inside. Therfore you will need also the small sealing rings between the halfs. For changing the pistons, you will need the ATE grease or similar brake piston grease.
