weirdly acting clutch (releases early..sometimes)

Post by pihlen »

hi guys,

i have an issue with my clutch and i have my ideas of what it may be, but here´s the symptoms:

i push the clutch pedal down, put 1st gear in, drive away. all as it should. just perfect.
every like 10-or-so times, however, it releases super early, like when i´ve released an inch from the floor it starts to drive away and if im not quick enough i will stall the engine as i dont have time to get proper gas. i think that i´ve once noticed that when holding the clutch pedal down for a bit long time (20 sec or so) the car started roll as if i was releasing the pedal while still having it pushed to the floor.

i´m guessing that theres some spring or so which is supposed to hold the plates in place which looses pressure and starts releasing it without my intention?

anyone recognizes the issue and know how to solve it?

thanks 1000 times ahead as usual :D

/stefan

Could it be the slave cylinder? Seals getting old/air slipping in?

Yes it could be the slave cylinder, it could also be the master cylinder, both fairly straightforward to change.

First though I'd check for any leaks around both cylinders and top up the fluid if required. May be worth changing the clutch fluid and bleeding the system before replacing any parts.
