Seal of the bonnet

Post by so.net@sfr.fr »

Hi everybody
I've recently bought the seal of the bonnet (at the front of this one). Do you have such a seal on your cars ?
I've never had on mine and I don't know exactly where it is placed. Here is a pic of this seal. Maybe on the bonnet ?

Isn't that the seal that should go on the inside of the bonnet, which closes the gap between the air vent holes and the wiper area? It on the inside of the bonnet and at the very top if the bonnet is opened.

Yes, I think so too. But I have seen an other seal at the front side of the bonnet, which seems close the gap between the end of the bonnet and and the top of the grilles. I've lost this pic I had seen on a BMW E21 few time ago. Like to avoid rain to enter under the bonnet ??? Does it really exist or is it a self-made work ?
And like Dammizi, I only hve the seal number 6. Do you have the two others, Jeroen ?

Correct, that is foam used to close the gap indeed. This was only applied on the latest series, think from late 81 or early 82 on. See parts 1-2-3 on http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=41_0140

I realise this thread is old, but I've just bought the same seal (no .3) & also the small one that's shown just in front of 3 in the picture. Having only bought 1 I realised that I should have got 2 but I can't figure out where they fit?
Also, #3 is too long to fit on the bonnet, & it seems odd they'd expect you to cut it when the other seals are supplied the exact length

This was fitted only on the latest models (late 81, 82) and was fitted on the front metal so the gap between the front and the bonnet would be closed.
