Re: Classic Thunder Build - Duracel79 - England
Thanks for the kind comments guys.
Headline figures from yesterday:
Power: 371 bhp (308.7 bhp @ wheels )
Torque: 383.9 Nm ( 283.1 ftlb )
I'll post a dyno trace later today, you'll see the lovely smooth power delivery its got now.
Very pleased with that, 4 years ago it made 329bhp and 263ftlb with the restrictive exhaust. Was hoping for 355 but got more
Cheers
Ben

Re: Classic Thunder Build - Duracel79 - England
is it safe to have that much rwhp without any assistance?
how is it like to drive when wet?

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Safe depends how heavy your foot is or how controlled your foot can be.Mihajlo wrote:is it safe to have that much rwhp without any assistance?

As for driving in the wet, no real difference to any other E21 on road tyres, you can only drive to the grip available, the LSD makes more of an issue in heavy rain than the power.
Car is really built for the track where slicks and racing wets will be used, won't be any issues there

Exactly, should be nice and controllable with the delivery. He did a lot of work on the vanos control and the fuelling to get all the gains (raise any dips) on full throttle.uwbuurman wrote:Nice and flat, no strange dips or peaks! All nice and lineair and impressive!
He also spent lots of time on part throttle settings as well so it should be controllable/responsive at any throttle position on the road.
I'm very impressed with 114bhp/litre from this bog standard engine.
Maybe in a few years I'll look into cams and compression but for now its enough

I'm impressed with your electrical knowledge and skills building your megasquirt'd setup on you 520.
Would be interesting to see how much more could be gained (if any) with a proper Mapping session on a rolling road.
Does the MSquirt have a logging facility so after driving you can download the data and interrogate it? AFR's and temps etc?

Re: Classic Thunder Build - Duracel79 - England
Hello Ben,
Thanks, MS3 has logging facilities on board (sd card), MS2 (which i'm running) does not. I need to hook up the laptop or smartprhone (bluetooth) for logging.
All the parameters you could think of will be logged, and there is a real nice app for viewing the logs, called "megaview"
The logging facility is really awesome, after a run you'll be able to see all that has happened, also nice tool to clock 0-60mph runs.
I think i haven't gained any power with this setup because my engine is a little tired, it has run 200K now without any overhaul. So defently need a fresh engine soon.
Drivability however has increased dramaticly against the old carb and dizzy setup.

Impressive race car you've put together.
Saw your beast at the SM IRL today. Nice color sceme also.
Really nice build you have. Don't wreck it at a trackday. For shure a car to have a lot of fun with.
Did the dyno run at the SM today match earlier runs?
