Baur rear seat & seatbelts

Post by Bigmeat »

I'm aware that the Baur has a slightly different rear seat. Can anyone enlighten me as to exactly what the differences are?

My seat base is different to the seat back (cloth wise). I don't know which part, if either is original, although the base is a real effort to get back in, & the seat back has the same hounds tooth pattern as the door cards and centres of the Recaros.

I also find that with the folding roof down, the rear seat belts don't work. They get trapped between the top of the seat back and the roof.
Surely they must be a way to sort this out as it's a worry if I'm carrying people in the back seat.

Incidentally, the retraction of all the seat belts, fronts included is very lazy, they all need help to rewind. Is there something I can do to remedy that? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi Al. The rear seats belts should have a plastic shroud over the bit where the folded roof sits, they seem to break off easily ( mine were )
My front seat belts were lazy too. I took them off the car, extended them fully, then sprayed WD40 around the spindle ( avoiding the seat belt itself ), then extended and retracted the belt several times. Not perfect now but OK.
My Baur seat base is awkward to fit but original. I can take measurements if it helps.

Correct. And the rear seat base is shortened on Baur cars. You'll find that with a regular example its too long. Somehow Baur shortened it at the back to accomodate reinforcements. Think you'll be able to shorten a regular one though.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I had a good look at the seat over the weekend. One thing I've noticed is that the seat back sits very high above the parcel shelf. Probably a couple of inches or so.
I took out the seat base and the back dropped straight into place, about 1cm above the height of the parcel shelf. It felt like it was sitting properly and looked better.
The seat belts (still lazy) worked with the roof down.
As soon as I put the seat base back in it pushes up the back until it's very high above the parcel shelf again.

What am I doing wrong? Or is it just that the base is the wrong one? I don't want to try to modify it incase I wreck it and am left without one as I need to be able to carry people in the back.

Sounds like a mismatch of some sort but one I haven't experienced yet! I had a regular rear seat temp fitted to my Baur and then the only real issue I encountered was thet the seat base was too long, that was all. Funny!
