E30 rear calliper conversion

Post by joe14 »

I'm underway with an E30 rear calliper conversion, but when we bolted up the calliper to the 323i trailing arms it's sitting too high on the disc.(e21 323i disc)
It feels like maybe the callipers are wrong, they were marked up as E30 318i callipers.
See pic below.
Any ideas what's wrong?

Yeah that's what's spurred me onto this.

I wonder is the distance between the sliders and the mounting bolts too big?

SO i think the mystery is solved.
Although labelled as callipers from a coupe, when I went back in it seems they're different from others on stock.
I think the pair originally supplied were from an estate car, see the below pic where the original (left) has a bigger piston and greater distance from the mounting point to the sliders.

Yeah, while tere is no difference between a regular 325i touring and sedan of even cabrio. I recently put a complete 325i touring swingarm on my 325iA cabrio.

I think all the rear calipers are the same for all e30s with rear discs with the exception of the M3, they certainly all use the same discs and pads.
Looks like your rear calipers are from a different model!

Oh right, well the reason I came to that conclusion was because of whats listed on brake parts website.
Estate, piston diameter 35mm
Coupe, piston diameter 32.9mm
