Speedo drive on engine swap

Hello fellow e21 owners.

Obviously the OEM gearbox has the mechanical drive which runs the speedo & odometer. How exactly does one get round that issue when doing, for example, an M42 swap? Turns out my box was from such an early e21 that it has the 4 speed, used in the 2002 model.
