This is usually used in the U.S. to protect the dash from the sun, or to cover up a damaged dash.

A very late welcome, nice car.
Do I eyes fail me or is there carpet on yr dashboard!!
Looks like Bmw fitted it too!!!!!
Thanks for late welcome. Sorry for my late reply, lol...

Yep, that is carpet on the dash. I highly doubt BMW or even the Dealer fitted it, tho. As Nils mentioned its usually put on to cover up a cracked dash. Personally I think its tacky, but it looks like it was put on with care so I'm just going to live with it.

I think I've got the k-jet sorted out, but I might be running rich. The newest development is that the catalytic converter is completely clogged up. I was driving it at night few weeks ago and it was sputtering more than usual and had a general lack of power. When I came to a stop I noticed something smelled really hot and there was a faint steam of smoke coming from under the car. I got down and looked under the car and the cat was glowing BRIGHT orange. It's probably been ruined since I got the car, but now its totally shot. I'm not going to drive it until I get around to fixing that.

Honestly, I haven't had a lot of time to really work on it seriously. I just recently got a new Italian toy. See pics of it here: http://www.mirafiori.com/~danb/galleries/x2007/
I was planning on taking the cat off the BMW this weekend, but got sidetracked grinding rust off the Fiat. That's a never ending battle
