BMW E21 320 Group 2 Race car

Post by Duffie »

Hello everyone.

New user here from Norway. Lots of great info on your site :)

So here's my deal. A few months ago i bought a beat up old 318i, 1980. The car has since that had its rust removed, rollcage welded in and a full respray. My plans for this car is to build a group 2 320 racecar, from homologation 5620. The car will get a HTP and be raced in the Historic racing races here in Norway.

In regards to this i am seeking information as to what parts were used on these cars, especially the brakes. What kind of calipers/discs were used on these? Are these still available somewhere? Any info on other parts, such as gearbox, rear diff etc is also greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Tommy

Wish I could help, I'd love to know more detail about the Group 2 cars.

My guess is there really aren't that many about especially still in original Group 2 spec.
The 02 and csl were still successful as a group 2 and the e21 wasn't much of an improvement until the Group 5 cars came along anyway.

How close to HTP do you need to be as to gain an HTP you would need to show proof of parts used with period photos etc.

I seem to remember the 5620 papers really don't show or describe very much at all.

Your best bet would be to find a helpful owner with an original car that'll let you take lots of pics and measurements from his car.

Good luck with the search
