My 318 BAUR - Absolutely in love!

Post by radosc_BAUR »

Hi Guys, my first post here :)

Few weeks ago i got myself beautiful koronagelb baur. I was always 6 series fan but kept my eyes on e21 for quite a long time. Unfortunately e21 share a sad story here in Poland. Some years ago, most cheap e21 were imported from germany and used as a daily drivers. Salty roads and careless drivers of cheap BMW made these cars hard to find in good condition. Actually most of them are complete rust buckets and it is so very hard to find a good one. That said i was offered car of my dreams. Beautiful yellow 1978 BAUR 318. It was updated with m20b20 engine in Germany but apart of this is an original car. Previous owner was a collectionner and bought it 10 years ago with an intention of restoring. He was known to buy best possible cars from Germany and bring it back to better than factory specs. Car remained on restoration waiting list for a long time until month ago he was forced to sell all his cars (more than 200 from with more than 120 already restored). Among like new pagodas, 2002s, and other rare cars there he stood. I got it for almost nothing as my friend who bought few mercedes and bmws from him got it as a part of a deal.

I'm absolutely in love with this car. It is already in the garage for suspension overhaul. I'll plan to rebuild engine but still not sure if I want to keep m20b20 or replace it with proper m10b18 engine. I enjoy working with it a lot!

Don't have new pics just these when i first sow it :)

Congrats and welcome here Radek... you finally made it through all spam protection

Love the car and its color... used to have a Koronagelb 323i and after a polish it was a stunner!

Regarding engines... I love the smooth sixes, the make a much more quiet, comfortable and powerful ride than the 4 cil versions but there's something to be said for originality as well of course.

Keep us posted!

BTW looks like a rare Beetle next to your car... you didn't happen to seize that one for 100 EUR did you? :)

Yeah I like the idea of keeping 318 badge and 2,5ltr engine :D

Well I'm not sure what to do really. I love working on engines so I might as well throw in 2,5l and MegaSquirt ECU. Wide open way for forced induction. But then again I would get tempted to make it better and I'll end up with like 300hp i a car that is fantastic cruiser for sunny days and not a build to race :D Still a lot of decisions.

On my projects waiting list is a 323 with 316 badge and v8 engine after I saw it on you tube.

Not an easy decision after all.

Jeroen, beetle is in fact pre war fiat I guess. Can't identify that one. Here is the photo, on first plan you have completely rebuild SIMCA (french verion of fiat - probably simca 5 but i'm not sure). It was for sale for 2000 euros including all bits and pieces to be assembled. This guy still have a lot of rare cars for sale, so if anyone's interested I could be more than happy to show you around :D

You really should correct that...

I love the blue 02...

Oh well... who knows what will happen in the (near) future...!

And for your car: I have mentioned earlier that I love yellow as a car color, also typical seventies colors as Inca, Phoenix and so on (non-metallic colors).

Nils you gay?, you seem to be offended? no worries, all we need is a hotdog to go with the mustard colour E21.. and it should look tastier..

Or hows about a gay driving and hotdog? actually if it was a bike it would be a gay riding a hotdog.

no i think a gay driving a hotdog with mustard all over it!! this way it would be A.K.A the E21 above....

Welcome here Radek. Good to see another classic BMW fan from Poland.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this place seems to be the Kijafa's garage.

Yep, famous place that is no longer. Most of the cars are sold by now. I bought this car in a lot of some other cars my friends bought so it was quite cheap.
