Rear Headrests

Post by Bigmeat »

Can anyone tell me which other vehicles share the same rear headrests as the E21? I've seen a very tatty Baur on ebay uk, that's being parted out. It has rear headrests (already sold & in very poor condition). The metal 'legs' appear to be very curved and come right over the top of the seat back
listing is here - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 500wt_1414

I'm having trouble sourcing a set, & would like to open up my search if others like the E12 etc. are the same. Material isn't too important as eventually they'll be recovered.

Those on that baur seem to me like e28 ones, on which they bend the pins. The are not placed in the holders but just stuck behind the seat.

E12 has the same headrests but in different cloth as an e21. E12, e30 and e28 all share the same brackets that hold the headrests.

I recommend getting the brackets and stuff from an e28, since they are still very available.

Just take a look in my topic to see what I used from a e28

To bad it doesn’t sit high enough to coverup the 2 tears in the roofliner.

Than I got my old shelf, and it turns out tob e a very decent one alwell. So I am going to use that one instead of cutting up the new one for speakers and headrests.

Thanks Uwbuurman. Appreciate the advice.
I do already have a set of the retaining brackets. My parcel shelf also already has the guide holes with the plastic grommets in.
Do you know if the Baur roof guides in the boot will need to be modified as I think they use the same mounting holes as the headrest brackets.
One thing I don't have is the sponge you show in your picture. What purpose does that serve?
The main thing for me is that I can put the roof down with the headrests fitted, for 2 reasons. Obviously safety is the main one, but the other is that people who sit on the back seat tend to rest their heads on the folded roof and it's driving my crazy cos it puts creases in the window.

The sponge is a e28 feature, just sound deadening material.

How the headrests work out in a baur, I don't know. But our president is sure to give you an awnser on that, but that 'll take some two weeks.

I'm back!

Not a huge rear headrest fan myself as they obstruct my rear view, and especially in case of the fat ones of the classic BMW's. But in case of an E21 Baur there's another issue: even if you are able to put the softtop down at all, you will never be able to fit the cover over the softtop (persenning).
