Air-con was installed 25/05/79, Radio 28/05/79 and the car was delivered by Light Motors Adelaide on 29/05/79.
There is a section on the Air-con unit where the radio could have been fitted, had it already been in the car, and then it would have been facing up, but the radio installers cut a piece out the lower dash panel, fitted a cover to give it a flush face, and stuck the radio in that.probably did not want to mess with the Air-con unit.
It does give the impression that back then it was all a bit custom job like!
Imagine buying a new BMW today that did not have a radio fitted as standard! :P

Mat,
sorry about the name booboo.
Pics to follow....

Confusion is setting in, my radio??? :D

That is a very clean example of an e21 in australia, with air con and the effort to flush fit a radio to keep it all looking standard as possible shows a good sign.

Is light motors still around? They may even point you to things you are curious about on your car.

S & M the thing in the festival state is it???

Light motors is long gone, Adelaide's sole BMW dealer is Adelaide Motors.
The guys in spares are VERY helpfull!
As for the S&M, sorry to disappoint you all....
The clamp is something referred to when one f@#%s up in a well known bike magazine, guess I got used to that, as for the festival state....
The festival happens once every two years, that is how long it takes to get things done in this this state. The eventually state is more apt, but that is already taken by WA, the wait a while state.
Cannot wait to move to the East Coast and bend some Banana's....

Kermit,

Definitley a thing of the 1970s, that set up!! It is a unique arrangment, and I look forward to the pics - but don't rush of course!.....I didn't  .

I guess your 'A' would mean auto option possible, as Jeroen said. PS, isn't it odd, that the old machine came with no radio, but had electric mirrors? They sure did things differently in the 1970s 8) .

Cheers

considering the purchase price of the day, and that you could buy a corolla at a fraction of the price that had a radio fitted ex factory.
about time you gave me sh#t about stuffing your name up :)

Yo, Windy.
Your E21 look sweet with those rims, But Kermit needs to stay original.
With the odometer just hitting the113,000 mark today, and me being the third owner (second owner did 60,000 k in 2 years), i think standard is the go. plenty of modded E21's out there.
I have even replaced the shocks with oem Sachs/boge gas struts/shocks.
I am living the retro thing , cos I was a teenager when these cars were new.
My Dad had a white E21 1978 320/6 4sp. with blue pullman trim.
Man did I love that car!

mike
