JPS 323i.

Post by Madhatter »

been bugged for a little while to post some pics of the car, but it needs body repair after some damaged that occured when the previous owner had the car, so ive kinda been holding off posting it till its repaired and returned to its former glory.

Washed (didnt polish :o) it on the weekend and i figured while at work ill take some pics in the carpark.

Things done since owned;

Stiffer front and rear roll bars (you might be able to spy the add on front roll bar in some of the pics).
Fitted extractors.
Fitted front strut brace.
Fitted fron adjustible top mounts.
Replaced All bushes with polyurethane.
Rebuilt Bilstein Shocks.
Swapped over to the period correct fishnet head rests.
Fitted new head unit
New Toyo T1R tyres.

Things in waiting;

Respray and repair.
Subframe mod (or if real lazy, just fit the adjustible bushes).
Have the pinstriping redone.
Replace shifter bushes.
Replace guibo/csb.
Timing Belt.
Restore BBS wheels.

Mechanically its pretty good, suspension is well sorted though ill probably replace the rear springs with something a little stiffer.

So yeah, might take a little while for the todo list to be completed, ive been flooded with parts for the e30 and the mechanical work on that will probably eat up my time.

Just to let people know, it gets driven daily, though because i want to do the timing belt it doesnt see much more than 4000rpm on the dial. Even then its audible bliss with the slightly different exhaust system the cars had 8) Could really do with an extra 50hp though :lol:

Yeah, i wanted 81 jps given the model, but it was taken. Then i looked for 21 JPS or 323 JPS, but again, taken. I would have had to spend over a grand to get a custom 6 figure combination (E21 JPS), but then i thought, hmm, 3 series.. bang. Not taken 8)

Well here is the E30 with the wheels i had done. Unfortunately something has stuffed up in machining and it means the hub centre is wrong and the front offset is incorrect as it rubs on the brake cradle.

Image

That currently has a turbocharged m30 filling the engine bay, replacing the drive train with a lightened flywheel (purchased), a twin plate clutch, a tremec tko 500 gearbox (on its way here from US) and a mechanical lsd (again, on the way). Should handle the torque then :)

The "other" (:lol:) e21 has been loaded up with all the pieces from it and is in the corner under wraps at the moment. Soon as i get the wheel issue sorted out on the e30 so i can move it, ill bring it back out for painting. Brother keeps breaking his 1200 so keep ending up having the space and the weekends taken up repairing that. :x

i dont know to tell you the truth. There are a few out here though, i know of a couple in qld.

Yeah, previous owner had them so i was thinking of putting them back on. I keep bidding on them but someone keeps outbidding me each time. The yellow grows on you though as it is a nice contrast with the black paint.

WAUW Hatter!!! Now that is Sweet!! :shock: 8)

Damn, I was just starting to accept the feeling of not owning an E21, and now you've messed it all up with those pics of your fab JPS!! :lol: :wink:
I've always loved the JPS and yours certainly looks good.
In my opinion I'd leave the orange indicators well alone. The clear indicators look alright for some colours of E21, but the orange stands well with the black bodywork. You should rather focus on getting the gold pinstripes down the sides instead!!

OOOOYYIIIIEEOO..... I want an E21 again!! - and it's all your fault Hatter!! :wink:
OO=00=OO
BMW-regards,
Anders.

Previously owned E21s:
'82 BMW 323i Alpina B6 3,5 rep.
'82 BMW 323i Edition S

Currently own:
'72 BMW 2002 - Agavegrün
'73 BMW 2002 - Veronarot
'74 BMW 3.0S - Polarissilber
'85 BMW 325e - Karminrot

Another E21er in Queensland said they saw a JPS, I sent them a picture of yours and they said it was the same one. Apparently there was a sticker on the back? They said they were starting an apprenticeship with the same business as was advertised on the back of your car.

To fit eccentrics so you can adjust the rear toe and camber. What you do is a little bit of welding so the adjusters have something to move against, its fairly simple to do, just need to take the subframe out to do it. I dont know if you noticed from the pic, but have a close look at the rear photo. The car is running over 6 degrees negative camber on the rear :shock:

That's a good looking E21, at first I didn't even notice the damaged front. You can buy clear indicator lenses at http://www.wallothnesch.com/e/frameparts.htm for €49,50 (they're in the category 'electrics')

Just had a look at the thread again... he said it was a 'Motorline' sticker.
Well, that makes 2 E21 JPS in Queensland, lucky bastards
