First impressions: much better with the electric pump so far.
Cold start significantly easier, and engine pulling up became much more even
It seems that the mechanical fuel pumps, although from bigger engine (iirc M30?) just could not cope with the engine- or these two specific pumps were both defective?

Could be antique pumps, or the lobe driving the pump being worn, I've seen that before as well.

Maybe yes
However, the first was a new one according to mechanic (nos I guess?)
The second was a used one.
Both had issues spilling -oil or fuel - all around
Now the area is clean
Also the car starts much more easily in the morning
And it feels like a daily driver : Still rather noisy because of webers, but significantly smoother. The feeling that we are done with engine issues is stronger now.
Also I dare a bit early to say that I now experience less (almost no) smell-so might fumes be coming from the fuel pump mainly?
It is early because I have done less than 50 km after pump replacement. I will re visit this issue soon.

Two pics from last evening...Driver's Recaro after 20 years (sorry, I did not take a photo from the other side-I should have, just to remember: it was terrible)

Left it at the upholsterer's to fix
and... here is my old one:

Stepping in the car from driver's side the feeling is like a time machine lol

No, not yet hahahahah
Because in the meantime I took he car to the body shop (with the old drivers seat on), and car is still there. It was high time I fixed all of those small issues I have got all around the car. Just local fixings, not a general job, but I guess this will keep me going for some years (given Greek weather and that the car parks inside 95% of its life)
Hopefully I will have some pics today, and will post them tonight (with some more that I took last week but haven't posted yet)
And, as some electric works have to be done as well, after the body shop I will probably take the car to the electrician, before returning to the upholsterer for the Recaro
Electric works: Dash has to be taken out, in order to fix that noise-which I believe to be a broken centre dash holder (bracket? hinge? whatever is this), and then refitted. I would like to inspect the sound insulation behind dash (while out) and then maybe add something there if possible? Also heating needs some fixing as well, which may not require dash to be out all right, but it sure is going to be a chance now...

Re: 316 - 1977 - petroscf - Greece
Oh, and I forgot the left lighting plaquette: Some years/posts ago, I had seen a picture in here of a LHD E21 dash at night, with the left part of the dash illuminated just like the rest of the dash, and then commented that this is a nice photoshop editing. I got the reply that this is not a photoshop, but this part of the dash was illuminated as well. When I opened my dash at the point, It seemed that not only there wasn't any electric plaquette, but it was "closed" there behind, it did not seem that any light would pass (no "transparency")
I did not look into the matter for some time
Recently I started looking into the matter again: Found out that W+N indeed sell a left lighting plaquette for this point exactly. And, looking at a similar part that I have in my position, I saw that there is a plastic "cap", "closing" and probably protecting this from dust or "injuries". So this means that indeed some models did not have this feature? Plastic cap can be taken out, and then the white semi transparent surface waiting for the plaquette is revealed! I ordered the plaquette from W+N, and, hopefully, my car's left part of the dash will be illuminated !

Will make a pic of this, and show here, when I take the dash part out in order to have the installation done, or when I get my hands again on my other, spare part

This section under the windscreen is hard to repair if you want to do it correctly and use as little filler as possible. I've changed the entire bottom part... Hopefully this will hold and they did a good job.
