Best source of wheel bearings

Post by Mark3 »

I have searched the Parts list in the for sale section, and done a search on the forum but can't find any suppliers of wheel bearings.

Neither EuroCarParts nor GSF can get hold of them (EuroCarParts sent me ABS units for an E30 first)

Can anyone recommend a reliable supplier of 316 front wheel bearings and 323 rear wheel bearings please?

I found these guys

https://www.mecatechnic.com/en-GB/front ... VA-ROU.htm

Has anyone used them? Are the 316 and 323 front wheel bearings different?

Any help or comments much appreciated. Maybe this info can then be added to the parts list in the FS section

Thanks

Mark

Not sure which country youre in but best I can help with just now are some after market part numbers ,
front bearing kit Fag brand 713667100 / Firstline brand Fbk143 (taper roller type bearings)
rear bearing kit Firstline brand Fbk322 (double row type bearing).
If youre really stuck, I can check availability with supplier for you but cant sell direct to you, can only recommend a distributor near you

Front struts and wheel bearings are different for various models indeed:
- 4 cyl struts: small bearings on a thinner axle (29x50.29x14.22 & 17x39.87x13.84mm), differenr hub, 45mm diameter shock
- 320/6 has the thin strut (45mm) bigger bearings on a bigger axle (31.7x59.1x15.8 & 19x45.23x15.49), bearings and hub identical to 323i
- 323i (all) and 320/6 in HD/tropical spec have bigger bearings, axle and hub, but on top of that they have a bigger strut (48mm instead of 45mm) and are best fitted with a larger diameter shock

Specs for the 323i rears:
BMW part no 33411119994 SKF BB1M30 362525 (30X58X16) GROOVED BALL BEARING - BMW specific, hard to find alternatives
BMW part no 33411122131 SKF 6206.c3 (30X62X16) GROOVED BALL BEARING - cheap and regular size available from both FAG and SKG

Will add this to the FAQ section as well!

Do you know about W&N they have most things. If you are ordering enough delivery isn't too bad:

Just hope -and frankly expect- that these are better quality than most of their replica rubbish.

The front bearings are available on ebay and amazon for both 316 and 323i through various sellers, FAG is a brand available.
These are fairly inexpensive and easy to find.

I had more trouble finding rear 323i bearings, and hence are more expensive.
I went with W&N in the end for these and haven't had any issues with quality yet (probably done 10K miles by now..)

Thanks Joe,

That's good feedback for W&N. I need to order some replacement seals at some point so I'll get the hard-to-get bearings from them at the same time

If they have branded stuff it should be ok. Many remanufactured or replica items they are selling are of questionable quality though. Also see The Walloth Nesch issues thread

320i has also thin strut + bigger hub/bearing.

320/6 + 323i rear wheel bearings are still available by Bmw too.
