First thing to keep in mind is that there is only 8-9 degrees temp difference between the 1/2 and 3/4 marks, not a whole lot. But if its not extremely hot and you're not pushing too hard, the temp should then remain at around the center mark. I'd definitely advise to leave the belt driven fan on the car, and as long as you can keep moving that should normally provide more than enough air flow to keep the temperature under control. Then, once it really heats up or when you're stuck in traffic, resulting in a lack of driving wind and the belt driven fan only running at low revs, then the electrical fan should kick in to assist.

If you still have a temp problem, then it's time for further investigation indeed. Thermostat opening correctly, enough pressure on the cooling system, enough flow in the cooling system and last but not least ignition timing.

Well, the last will certainly be not the least, as I am going tomorrow to replace my webers (40 dcoe) : found a pair of rare dcoe 45s series 15-16, which I was for no reason going to let go...
So here you go with some news!
Tomorrow I will be taking the car to the guy who's fitting (and sells) them. He is one of the best experts in webers here in Greece (and probably abroad, judging by his continuous contributions in international rallies). So he will be setting timing as well for good

I am actually trying to restart an upload album in flickr, in order to get rid, eventually, from photobastards, but I haven't yet worked out how to post on here-I can't see no img code...

See the instruction in the general section. Right clicking an image may get you a direct image url you can paste betwee img brackets.

Think there are enough image hosts around, or as an alternative get your own domain. The best way to make sure it will remain accessible.

Yeah I don't know how come my mechanic (the guy that built the engine) did not see it...
I think it was very tiny in the beginning, however recently I believe the issue should be quite easy for an experienced mechanic to see

Anyway, this time I believe (I hope at least) my car is in good hands

And (just a guess here) msd could be the reason the problem evolution was accelerated anyway

Hahah now I saw the other topic, Jeroen I think you have to mix the two topics, they are so similar...
I am now waiting the guy's diagnosis, in order to decide next step, I hope it is only a gasket, however signs are not far from those of a cracked head. a good friend (and fantastic parts source) has a couple of heads waiting, he plans to send them for press testing, so we know if they would be ok to use in case mine is gone
