M20B23 header air pipe

Maybe a noob question but whats the story about the pipe on the other side (header side)
of the air intake?

Looks like its more common that e21 m20b23 engines does not have it.
Was it some year or do people remove it?

Together with the two metal pipes at the front they make the EGR system, which was only mandatory in a limited number of countries, for example Switzerland, Sweden and the US, so the regular European models don't have this. These systems often cause a lot of issues and that's why most people remove them as soon as they start playing up.
