While the paint was drying, I worked on the rear bumper, to get it to fit exactly right. It does.

The rear axle and arms layed out for assembly.



I started by fitting the lsd on to the subframe



And the arms



Stabilizer gear



And after it was assembled, I fitted it on the car as one piece.

I made new brakelines on the arms





Fitted the calipers, now with Ferodo DS2500 pads

Then I tried to fit the handbrake cables. But the ends wouldn't fit the tubes under the car. Way to loose, I couldn't figure out why.



After investigation I learned the the last 2 centimeters on the tubes were no regular widenings, but remains of a previous set of handbrake cables. Since it was the same on both sides, I never realized that this was the case. Did not notice it either.

What to do? Appropriate violence and a bit of agression did not work, so I took a small hacksaw blade and a pair of locking pliers, so I was able to saw them through in the length from inside. That gave them space to schrink a bit so I could pull them out. Man, what a pain in the butt this was...





After that (and a fair bit of swearing ) finally fitted those cables and the second calipers.

Last job for the day was fot the rear shocks. Layed out.



And assembled.



And that's how on a chilly and cold evening in january my e21 323i srood on it's own (rear)wheels since 6 years.

Nope, just flipping the topic over to this part of the forum. Should have been done a year ago... . But I'll finish it next week.

Rearside done leaves me with the front. So the next step is likely to be the front axle. But since I want to fit the engine on the subframe in one go under the car, I need to build that motor at first. So all the hardware that is to be boltet on, needs to be refurbished, cleaned and tested.

The liftbracket on top of the head is not the right one. The small one is e21, the larger oe is for an e30 of e28. But the e21 one doesn't fit the 885 head, due to a different diameter of the holes. They are fortunately to small. Drilling them out is much easier than drilling them smaller....
