Hi everyone,
I’m planning to upgrade the front brakes on an E21 316, as it’s getting a larger engine this spring. Due to regulations in Norway, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration requires the brakes to have a minimum diameter of 270 mm.
After doing some research, I’ve come across two potential options and would appreciate some input:
Option 1: Mini R50 Discs + Volvo 240 Calipers
From what I’ve read, it seems that Mini R50 brake discs (276 mm) fit when paired with Volvo 240 calipers.
Has anyone tried this setup? Are there any challenges with mounting or compatibility I should be aware of?
Option 2: Volvo V70R Adapter + V70R Calipers
Another option is to use a Volvo V70R adapter for the 240 and then mount V70R calipers.
This would allow me to use larger 330 x 32 mm discs.
However, I’m unsure if this setup fits and where I could source suitable discs for it.
Has anyone tried these setups on an E21 before?
Are there other alternatives I should consider?
Any tips on where to source parts or potential challenges with these options?
Looking forward to hearing your suggestions!

Volvo 240 calipers is a common upgrade, Wilwood also offers fine options, forum's search function should help you out there.

Thanks for the feedback Jeroen! Like I said there are two options I'm looking on. However I have not found that much information on the MiniR50 disc or the Volvo V70R setup, and even less on potential discs to use.
I will do some more forum searches!
