Headlight Wipers

Post by Bigmeat »

As a kid I was fascinated by cars that had headlight wipers.

I'd really like to add them to my single headlight Type 1.

Does anyone know which wiper motors will fit and work ok with the E21? There are several that look similar, including a set for the E24 on ebay currently.
Can dual headlight motors be made to work with a single headlight wiper blade?
Having never seen a set working, or how they are mounted I realise I'll have work to do, but I just want to know what is possible. I know some motors are very different in shape such as the E30 ones. So I'd prefer something that at least looks like one for the E21.

In Sweden it was a standard accessory, so for a while it was easier to find parts there. However, at the moment there is nothing on the major website for professional car part dealers: https://www.bildelsbasen.se/sv-se/pb/S% ... -&-Torkare

That would be great if it's not too much trouble. Thanks.

If you think it might work with a single headlight are you open to selling?

Well, I am pretty well informed on the topic, since we've build several e21, e30 and e12 SWRA (Scheinwerfer reinigungs anlage, German for headlight cleaning system)

The e21 single headlight washers are very rare. The motors are different from double headlights, the nozzles are very different. The double pump fluidtank is the same, the wire harnass is almost the same.

Ik have seen a lot of e21s, but only two ever with a single headlight cleaning system. One of which I sourced the parts with user Groentje_me, who owns that car.

I suggest sourcing the parts, piece by piece, from ebay or brakers.

Thanks for that, good to know. I've never seen a set for sale on Ebay, but I'll keep looking.
At least I know it will be better not to keep looking at the double headlight ones. I'd hoped it would be as easy as just fitting the single wiper on the end of the motor shaft.
If you do happen to see any parts I'd be happy to pay a finder's fee...

Well, I don't think you'll ever gonna find a set, so just start gathering components, like tank and motors, the brackets that hold the motors and the nozzle. Will take a few years....
