Hi Wakoo,

The wear and tear on the car seems about standard for what you'd get on an old BMW here in Australia (if not better). So its not too bad at all. As Anders says, a bit of TLC and $$$$ (geez I hate money  ) and she'll be looking good!

Nice colour too, and the interior is in good nic too -esp the seats and door trim.

Cheers

ehe, thks.. the seats are not what you see! They are covered with that crap you see there because the seats are not that good.. but that is something i am going to be fixing real soon!

yeah, the car is in great shape! my problem is the € i'm going to spend painting it  a whole good paint job here can go up to 2000€

I'm going to have to order many things from people around here, because in Portugal there aren't many of these cars.. and when i find one they won't sell only some pieces of it..

today i'm going to take some pictures of what i need to replace and i'll post them here.. so you all can help with they'r names and models.. :) :)

thks

Well, still the interior is generally OK - just routine wear and tear. Nothing is falling apart, you know . The car just needs some TLC, its not a bomb!

If Aussie prices are anything to go by, you can probably pick up a pair of good 2nd hand seats for about 200-300EU. But in the meantime those covers look OK enough.

Hmm, good question! I was wondering about it myself too, I suppose it lights up when youre really low on gas, maybe your fuellevel still isn't low enough. Dont know how low it must be,

The reserve light comes on at dofferent times in different cars - not sure at what point this is in BMWs. In my e30 I used to fet about 50kma after the light came on.

Its all hooked up to the floater, so the problem could be the switch or the bulb, or simply a connection. In my e12, the light comes on when the needle still points at 20L - the needle no longer goes all the way down, but the light mechanism is still hooked to the floater and works properly.

I've heard these things are hard to fix (same in all cars), because sometimes the repairs must be done to the floater itself - this means a removal of the actual fuel tank $$$$$ :(

Today I got to know something... the damn light is damaged, got stuck in the middle of the road  ran out of fuel

The car is now at the electrical workshop getting the alternator fixed maybe tomorrow i'll check the bulb if its broken or something (hope so)..

Btw.. to install the radio I have to install what we here cal an ISO to the cables in order to plug the radio in.. going to have to make a "slot" made of wood to fit the radio under the ashtray.. i'll post pics when i get it done..

I have had that same problem with my E21. My low fuel light never ends up turing on, and once caused me to run out of gas. If other people are having a common problem with this and have a soloution, please let me know.

Thanks,

Sinagy

Well, welcome to the joys of old Bimmer ownership!
Sometimes, they are cranky old things. The thing to do is to make a note at what mileage you ran out of fuel, and remeber it, and do not exceed it. Say it was 450kms, then you'll know to fill up at around 400-420kms. In an old car this is sometimes the only way to get around such fiddly problems.

To fix these type of things, I think you really must have some mechanical knowledge and a spare few hours to fiddle in the garage. Otherwise you have to fork out for a mechanic to do this. It is these type of things that can make a BMW become expensive if you havent mechanical knowhow....But there are ways around it, like the advice above!

Its just part of owning a classic

Had the same problem with the light, I replaced the bulb and still the same problem! So I had to replace the whole circuit board.

Any way nice car, just needs a little rust work and the dash may be fixed, if not you can get a dashcover from bavarianautosport. Is your car Kastanien Rot? Mine used to be before it "bleached" out
