My 320/6 automatic
I want to introduce myself at this forum. My name is Peter Vissers and I'm living in the Netherlands. Since November 2007 I own a E21. It is a 320/6 automatic from the year 1981.
In my life I have had different BMW's. It started as my second car with a E21 315 from 1983. In between I had other cars but I came back to BMW every time.
*E21 315 (1983, bronzitbeige)
*E34 520i touring ( 1992 black)
*E34 520i sedan (1994 Royalblue)
*E28 518 sedan, my first classic as a seccond car (1983 safaribeige)
And Now a E21 320/6 automatic (1981 polaris)
The regular car I drive is a Opel Vectra 1.8 16valve from 1999.
I'm trying to make the E21 as original as possible so a lot of work must go into the car. The previous owners had changed a lot.
*Different lightcolours ( warninglights at the front we're black and at the end red)
*Remus exhaust.
*15 inch BBS
*BMW tags at the front and back are shaved.
*Lowered suspension.
*No trims at the sides.
Several things I already changed into original.
I hope for a good time at this Forum.
Greetings Peter V.

Project start
Hey,
My E21 is going into surgery now. Because i have some welding to do i needed to remove te wiring compleet from the fusebox and the dashboard. Started to remove the dashboard and label all switches and connectors. First i had to remove the interior and the carpet.
Came to the conclusion that it wil be a lott of work to remove all the rust.
It probably wil become a complete restauration. I wil keep you posted.
Below a link for some photos.

Hey,
I'm thinking of a complete restauration now. So indeed the windows wil be removed. If the budget wil not allowe this then it must take more time so i can save some money to do it good.
The interior is completly removed and also the wiring is removed. My first intension is to create space to put al the parts so i can strip the car completly.
It's taking some time but then i wil have the E21 the way i would like it.
I wil keep you all posted with photos and info.

Time for a update:
Today i have done the next things.
*Removed wiring at the engine.
*Removed the windscreenwipersystem.
*Removed the heating completly.
*Removed the windscreen ( Glad I have not much rust over there)
*Removed the backseats to see for rust ( Glad is not much)
After working at the front of the car and get depressed about the rust now I was happy to see it was not much today.

Hi,
From your first series of pics, your car looked almost as new, bit of a bummer that it has the familiar rust places underneath.
Are you going to do the restoration yourself? I couldn't see on the pictures if you have also removed the rear side windows? Usually youll find some rotten places underneath there and near the B style as well.
Are you going to keep the shaven front and rear too? I really think that the rear end of the car is excellent!
Good luck

That new looking was my reason to buy the car but as always for me the wrong reason.
I'm doing the restauration al by myself so it takes a lot of time but that's my hobby so I do not have a problem with that.
As you asked, I do not have removed the side windows but for what I can see from the inside it is not so bad. When I'm really working on the body and the sanding begins then I probably will see some polyester and rust but that's for then.
The shaved bonnet and hood are already sold because I want the original ones. But I'am wondering if the black panel between the rearlights wil be put on
We will see about it.
See You Peter V.

It s looking god without the black backpanel, but thats just my opinion.
If time isn't an issue then i would certainly remove the side windows, just to make sure.
On my E21 there wasn't rust on the up standing edges where the ruber is place on, but there was some rust on the horizontal plates thats directly under the rubber on the outside of the car.Hard to explain, but would be apitty if your car would go show rust issues in a couple of years again
