Now the crane has arrived i can remove the engine and transmission.



You end up with an empty engine room:



The engine and transmission are seperated but i need longer bolts to mount it to the enginestand.

A little update:

Today removed:
* ATF- lines from automatic transmission to the radiator.
* Removed the brakelines at the front.
* Removed the Masterbrake cylinder.
* Removed the stabiliser at the front.

Discovered that the brakepads are finished.



When you have a problem with your stabiliseraxle you fix it for your MOT with this.



At both sides i had the following collection of rubber to close the space of the stabiliseraxle.

Now it's time to declare my E21 totally stripped.
The real work of restoring can begin.

Tonight i came to the conclusion that there were some little things that i forget. For example the switch for the handbrake, rubber things for the headliner, windscreensprayers (good english??) etc.

After that the car was really stripped so i started with removing the coating of the floor. The rust was coming:

for the first time this week i have something done on the E21. I have been removing the coating further. Then i discovered under the coating where your rear seat is two openings to the underside. These were originally coated with a plastic. and offcourse a little rust.

My question, are they necessary or can i well them up.

I´ve just started on mine `81 320/6 but I´m not going all the way for now, only a bit of rust repair and some small mods.
Do I have to remove the whole heaterunit under the dash to get out the floorcarpet in one piece?

Hey jsf,

Just for the carpet you don't have to remove the heaterunit at all.

But if you need welding on your jacketpoints, like most E21, you probably need to remove the isolationcarpet also. This one goes around the two pipes of the coolingwater to your heaterunit. If you want to remove the isolationcarpet in one piece you must remove the heaterunit.

A little update,

I have started to remove the bodycoating at the bottomside of the car. It is a work but what's beneath is much more disturbing.

hey,

I have started to build a frame where my E21 can be mounted on so that it's possible to move the car.

Welding and bolt connection at the corners:


Inthe middle i have made a similar construction.

The basic frame is finished:


The front strut with stand-ups to mount the frame at the car.


Now the same construction at the back and four wheels and it's finished.

Hey Stephan,

Thanks, I saw it at the forum and it gives me the chance to make a simple system so i can get My E21 on his side or put it on a trailer. That way it is easier to work at the bottomside of the car and move it.

By the way, your Baur looks very nice, you can't wait to start it, i presume?
