The carb is the famous 4A1. When it runs good you have fun with it but when you have problems with it, cold start for example, then the shit begins.

The car looks alright to me.

Yeah the shit has already started as it wont start, not really familiar with carbs . previous owner said there was a problem with the fuel pump .Am i right in thinking that the fuel pump on these is a mechanical one in the engine bay not at fuel tank?

I'm Sorry Retrobeemer but that part you are refering too is not the fuelpump but the electric device that moves your chokevalves.

here is a link which tells you everything about the carb.

http://www.ruddies.business.t-online.de/se4a1b.htm

The fuelpump by the way is located near your ignition at the engine and is where the incoming fuel-line is and from there another fuel-line goes to your carb and comes there at a devider in the shape of the letter F. Here you have the input of the pump, the line which goes towards your carb and the return line to the tank.

Yeah i'll have to sort out the rust first, get it running. Am interested in the motronic fuel injected idea. Did you install into yours? But want to drive with carbs for a while. Also might get them Rial 15" wheels for it. I can see a bottomless pit emerging and my cash going into it. :)
