If you're having trouble with 195/50s I'd be tempted to gently pull the arches.

Great minds and all that. I have been ringing round trying to find somewhere to roll the arches but Elite sold their machine. I did see them use a wooden baseball bat on some american custom show. They slipped it between tyre and arch as the car was driven slowly forward. It actually worked a treat!

Anyway, my cars back on the Alpinas and thats how its staying - for now.

Just booked in to have a stainless exhaust system made and fitted on the 2nd September. They were booked up till then. Hopefully the local speed humps won't rip the standard system off before then!

Mark, if you want an honest opinion (from me) i wouldnt roll the arches, its an old car, what i would do is change the springs to H&R 35 mm drop and stick 15" wheels with 195/50/15 at the front and 205/50/15 at the back OR stick to 195`s all round, the springs are well too low mate going over bumps is giving problems, fitting an extra inch on a rim wont make that big difference, if the shox all round are fairly new i would slap a nice set of H&Rs and your sorted, no need to roll anything at the back keep the car original untouched arches as possible id say but its your car and you have shout on it..

And if you need tyres, i have the geezers details and he lives in south london so wont be far from ya, if i remember rightly he lives in bermondsey and i paid like 120 quid for mine and happy. Im not looking to fork out like 80 quid each, im not doing top speed driving on main roads or anything and these tyres are rated 150 miles top speed so your secured!!! ive got his number and you mention my name (if he remembers me) and he sort you out the same way!!! if you tell him what tyres you want hell have em ready either later the same day or next day without a deposit.....

I hear what your saying Jimmy but I actually like the ride height of the car as it is and so long as they can tuck the new system right up out of the way there should be no more scraping. Its the box that splits into 2 near the back axle thats scraping and the assure me that they have a shallower section they will use. Time will tell I guess?

Apart from that its great to be enjoying the car again. I love the difference in performance and the gas mileage which must be mid 30's per gallon now easily. Obviously that drops a bit when driving 'enthusiastically'.

I was going to fit the air filter but decided not to get my hands dirty for a few days and enjoy it instead.

Stereo has to be next I think Jimmy.

If I wanted a car that I wasn't going to play about with I wouldn't have bought an e21 would I?

Glad to hear your car is running at optimal performance after all the cat and mouse!! your car does look the bollocks with it that low but like you says if you can get away with it by rolling the arches give it a go!! got nothing to kill for it... and one day when you decided you get the exhaust sone in stainless then you could have it designed your way around... also thats a true point with " If I wanted a car that I wasn't going to play about with I wouldn't have bought an e21 would I?" thats what its all about!! - stereo next with quality sound would fit in nicely!!

With the Alpina rims I don't have to get the arches rolled - just stop the exhaust scraping.

I've tracked down a pair of 6x9's and a pair of 6 inch for the front - £30 the lot. The girl who's selling them lives a little way off though so she's going to mail them. I can make do with listening to the engine for now I guess.

I came out of Asda yesterday and there was some guy sat next to the car with his wife in their MGF. He was raving about how he had a 323i about 20 years ago and how much he missed it. He loved the colour of mine. In fact the colour seems to get loads of attention.

My cars been running better and better all weekend. Really looking forward to getting down to Maniflow and seeing just what they can do for the exhaust. I definately want to stick with a twin silencer system though. I want a slightly sportier sound but nothing too chavtastic. The main thing has to be that I stop scraping speed humps!
All being well I will fit the new air filter and cold air duct before having a final tune up and re setting the CO.
I'm having the Recaros re covered within the next week or 2 and that should tidy the interior back up. Eventually I want to dye the carpets and parcel shelf black.

Looking forward to getting to Santa Pod RWYB and seeing just what it can really do.

Got to be at their workshop in Salisbury for 7.30am on Thursday. They're going to build a bespoke system in stainless for £350 fitted. That's a saving of £150 over Longlife. In fairness it only comes with a 3 year warranty. Hopefully they'll let me get some pictures as they build and fit it. I'm not going for anything too wild but Maniflow do seem to have a pretty good reputation.
