E-21 - Engine replacement (1.8 IS Vs 2500 M20 Vs M10 1.8 T)

Post by Jazziat »

Hello,

I`m from Egypt, i`m an owner of E-21 1982, Power Steering & Air Condition, in a very good condition.

I love this car to the max, i don`t wana sell this car. However, the problem is that finding spare parts for this car currently in Egypt has become very hard. I can only find some used spare parts and not all of this in a good shape.

My engine is 1800 C.C with a 2B4 Carb, the engine is in a very good shape, also the interior & the exterior of the car.

To cut the long story short, i`m originally a tuner for Fiat cars. But also i love E-21 because we got this car as new in 1982. so its our own use.
I want to tune my E-21, but i don`t want to put a 6 cylinder engine, just because i will not be able to find the suspension system of the 6 cylinder E-21 & the braking system.

I`m thinking of two things, and please advice me what to do:

1- I`m thinking of changing the engine head, with another ingection head from the later E-30 with ECU & Air Flow meter. Because the original ingection engine of the E-21 comes with distributor (Which is a pain in the ass) from my point of view.

What i need to know is, if i did so ... would i be able to reach something around 150 HP using this setup.

2- I`m thinking of installing M42 engine 318 IS, just because this engine is not expensive in Egypt, but i only saw 3 or 5 tuners who did the same, and i don`t know what should i change and will the engine get in the engine bay properly without any modification in the mounts OR WHAT ....

I will be sending you some picture for my car later ....

Also i will be glad to receive all your comments ,....maybe i`ll change my direction ...

Thanks
Jazz

I would suggest option 2 and go with the m42 conversion. Bringing your engine up to what is essentially 2002ti spec will only give you about 120bhp unless you fit a schrick cam etc.
I'm sure people that have already converted to an m42 can advise you. Good luck.

I`v been in the past couple of hours reading several subject concerning the conversion of M42 into E-21. However, the problem which is loud and clear comes to changing the engine mounts place .... which means cutting & welding .... which is not acceptable for me .... because my E-21 is still fabrique inside .... which is something essintial for the aftersale of your car in Egypt ... thats why i don`t wana destroy this by getting another engine .... and doing this cutting & welding ....

I would suggest you fit a Weber 28/36 or similar, which will give you an extra 10bhp. You could combine it with a larger valve head easily enough.

salaam, kefa halaat!

welcome to the site.. Your only options to me are to import stuff in from Europe. They may be a bit more cost, but you need the parts! But if you get some europeans your friendly with to bring it with them on holiday to Egypt your sorted!

i have a set of inlet manifolds to fit twin 40 weber carbs if you want them. if you get a exhaust manifold and a better cam then your well on your way to getting similar m42 power without all the hassle of making engine mounts.

Hi all,

Alpina, i can send you many photos, but sure u can search them on the web ....

Nas80, sorry with what happened to you and your wife, if just because some of the egyptians have some other traditions and religions .... but i can assure you that not all the egyptians are like this....

It will be pleasure to visit us again in Egypt, if it is possible, maybe at next time i could arrange something special for you.
