Hello again,

i found an M20 2,0L engine for sale, coming out from an E-30 automatic trans.

i`m thinking of buying this engine & have some fun in tuning it a little bit.

My question is: because the engine is automatic trans, i`m thinking of using the 4 speed gearbox i already have in my M10 engine & the same diffrential of the 4 cylinder engine.

I`m doing this because i want my KM gauge to work normal.

So please advice.

you also need the 6 cyl front subframe to go with the 6 cyl engine. engine mounts are different.

just do the m42 conv. so you might have to do a bit of welding? so what. im sure they have mig welders in eygpt too?

everyone should have to learn to weld!!!!!!

i don't think so, maybe it should read:

"everyone who has an E21 should have to learn to weld because they will need welding!!!!!! "

on subject of welding and rust, i was quite surprised, changed the seats for E30 sports seats the other week and rob and i pulled off the old back bench, i was expecting to see gaping holes (like dr jim had a while ago) but there was no rust on one side, and a small amount of rust the other, very small patch and had far from gone through. i was quite happy with that. going to get it sorted in the summer :D

yeah actually thats exactly what i meant.

an e21 either does need welding or it will need welding

hello,

I managed to find an injection head coming from an M10 E-30 engine, full package (Head, Injectors, Air flow Meter, ECU ... etc)...

What i need to confirm is ..... will it be possible to replace my head (Original Carb head) with the found one and just replace the old head gasket & do the electrical small thing ... then everything would be fine ??????

I would be happy to receive your replies

yes that will work but why not upgrade and run the injection system? will be better,
also you want to keep the injection head as it has larger valves and a better cam from what i have seen.
if you wanna keep the car then just swap the manifold onto it but make sure you file the ports to match :)
tuning ill be easyer on the injection i think as the carb wont give you a lot to play with power wise unless you upgrade the carb
i have some twin 40 carbs which would give you a nice power boost!!!

hii Austin,

What i`m going to do actually is that i`m going to install the full injection head of the E-30 engine, with its cam, valves .... ets onto my block .... this will be useful for me to gain the power coming out from the different cam timing & larger valves.

The only problem which makes me not that much satisfied is that i will have to remove the battery from the right front to the rear of the car ... just to leave space for the airflow meter to be installed properly. (Do you have any idea`s about this just to keep the battery in its same place !!!)

Thanks for the reply .... i`m going to post some pictures for the swapping within the next couple of days .....

My plans is to use Mega after finishing this step .... bigger injectors, port & polish for the head .... lets have some fun with the injection .... as i have been paying alot of money wasted on fuel because of the silly 2B4 original carb of this engine ..... (No running ... No performance ... huge consumption of fuel :( & empty pocket)

wish me luck :)

murran,

We have welding in egypt, but because of that my car is still in the original factory painting .... & still in a very good condition ... i own it from 1982 till now .... therefore, i don`t want to put an engine of which will make me do some welding job Or something like that.

Lets see what will happen with the injection head of the E-30 engine ... i`m sure that this will deliver much better power & torque curve.

Thanks

well good luck first of all.

as for the battery it is better off in the rear anyway to be honest and quite and easy conversion, if you have to run it though there is room fir the airflow meter in there just not for the standard air box so you will have to run a cone filter or simaler but it is possible to keep battery up the front.

leave of the mega squirt for a bit untill my mate ben has tried and tested the system because im still getting various reports about its use.

as for porting and polishing, dont bother, BMW did it fairly well from the factory, just get a decent exhaust system on there first and if anything go for a bigger cam, that will increase the amount of air dramatically.

Dear All,

Project is done .... I`m now running with full injection system, and while the engine was out i noticed the following:

My pistons are extremly low comprission, the pistons are flat compared with the original pistons in the engine of which i took my head.

i didn`t remove my battery from the front. i will not put the original air box & because there is no space for the air fillter because the distance between the AFM & the battery is very short .... i will install (COLD AIR INTAKE SYSTEM) home made :D

the only problem i faced after running with the car for the first time yesterday was the almost new clutch system (LUK), this clutch system was taken from the engine i bought (And the old owner just bought it 2 month ago) but i installed my flywheel, what happens is a huge sliping of the clutch starting from the second gear till the end.

However, there is no clutch burning smell, i guess something is wrong with the engage of the clutch system .... i don`t no why ??? but when you drive the car slow ... everything goes fine ... another information is that the clutch pedal is very very light ... as if there is no clutch system in the car.

would you please give an opinion !!

Thanks

Hello Austin,

I also think it is sort of contamination on the disk, i will check in the weekend, i have been using the car since yesterday....i feel great about the fuel consumption....:D, never like before .... now i can almost do 200 KM per 20 Litters ... before 140:150 KM per 20 Litters.

I still have a problem with the engine idle, i will try to clean the injection system today....(Injectors, fuel ruler, new fuel filter, Airflow meter...etc)

I also guess that i have to change the original exhaust of my car .... any recommendations !!! (diameter, single rear box OR should i add one in the middle ... )

Do you know the original size of the injectors of this engine (M10).
Also another question in what regards the 5speed gearbox.....as it was the first time yesterday to use the 5th gear....and i got 100 KM on the 5th gear on 3000RPM .... is this to be considered the economy gearbox or the sport one .... i couldn`t find the code to check on the internet. ???

thanks for the help Austin .... it seems like you are the only one who`s intrested to follow up the progress :)

Regards
