Hey jacko, I'll call over to see you at some point. Should be good to see how someone does it properly...I'm only a mere electrician! Work takes me all over manchester from wythenshawe up to blackley so I should be able to find you!

Hope to see you and Jim soon...

Bunk.

If your handy with a welder then anything can be achieved but to let someone do the work and money being exchanged then id assess the situation before you put yourself in the resto, cos once started then best finished otherwise maybe better to find another car and start on that....

does look bad and there are worst ..

hey guys, thanks for the g up! Its starting to scare me a little now! Don't mind the welding or the time, my concern is with getting hold of/fabricating the metalwork required. I think I could do with a donor shell to chop some bits out of. I did have an offer to get the bits from a shell on here, just not sure how much of their shell will be left!!

I need to pick my bottom lip up and get moving with it!!

Cheers again, Bunk.

If you can weld and you have got the time stick with it.

Wow, erm that is rather bad. I'll be honest with you - its not a task i would be up for taking on as i'm not so great with welding (never really tried tbh) but if you know what you're doing its nothing that can't be fixed. I've seen MUCH worse condition cars get restored before now but you need to be very committed.

I wish you luck good sir, if you can stick it out and get it welded up! :D

The rust in that scuttle/screen area is scary, but anything can be fixed if you want to do it. The thing most of you aren't really taking into consideration is that this was Marks car originally and he wants to bring it back to life. If he'd bought this car and was planning to restore it, the Manchester branch of the e21.net forum would go to his house and either remove it or him. However it was his pride and joy once and hopefully will be once again.

I bodged together a patch for a smaller hole in the slugs windscreen surround which still leaks now, but as a track car it's not really an issue. For this project it would be though.

Jacko and I have bought an e24 to break, the screen base should be a very similar shape - assuming it isn't rusty you could cut that out of the e24 and modify it to fit the E21. Would be easier than starting with a flat piece of sheet steel and wondering how to make it the right shape.

Wow, I've never seen scuttle rust that bad on an E21 like, ever! What a shame I never had anywhere to store my scuttle when I broke my red car as I would have let you have that, but hey who knew? Depending on if you're a whizz at fabbing panels or can get hold of a scabby shell to scavenge, it'd still well worth doing - I've seen much, much worse saved...

Hey all, BIG thank you for the support! I have been in touch with Nas who has a shell I can buy off him. Lifesaver!!

As far as time goes, fortunately that isn,t a problem. I don't have another car but I've got a company van so work is sorted. The car can take as long as required to get right and Ive got quite a few pals who are welders so that shouldn;t be a problem either.

I was hoping to get back on the road sooner rather than later but I won't rush it. I might end up getting something as a run about in the meantime....Ive seen a few e28's going cheap and as long as its got some decent mot left and is pref black/grey then I might take a punt. Its money away from the e21 but I've seen them going for around the £400-600 range. I don't do major miles so its should last.
