Your more than welcome to use the one in the workshop Jim gave me. I just need to source some gas. Turns out the local welding centre want about 100 quid just to register! Thats before i even buy any gas which at about 33 quid per cylinder. Aint no way im paying that.

those coach bolts are m10 8.8 rated, minimum requirement for roll cage bolt in mountings..... according to my 2007 msa blue book.
and yes i know the plates need welding in. the plates are mounted underneath the car to sandwich the body skin between cage feet and the reinforcement plate.
"K. 1.3.2 Mounting of rollcages to the bodyshell.
Each mounting foot of the front, main and lateral rollbars must include a reinforcement plate of a material of at least the same thickness as the wall of the tube to which it is being welded (minimum 3mm).
Each mounting foot must be attached by at least 3 bolts, minimum M8 150 grade 8.8, on a steel reinforcement plate at least 3mm thick and of at least 120 square cm area which is welded to the bodyshell (The mounting feet may alternatively be welded directly to the reinforcement plate - this does not apply to backstays)."
being that im never guna actually compete in this car, and this cage isnt up to competion specs..... im just using this ^^^^ as a guide.

The cage came from an MSA log booked rally car so it should meet the minium MSA standards (for when it was made), what dia is the main hoop

not sure on the hoop size jason, i'll have to measure it. in the blue book it says all mounting feet must have 3 holes to bolt it in. the front feet and rear suppots only have 2 bolts?
cheers for sorting this cage out for me!
took me ages scraping all the white household gloss paint off it and rubbing it down to paint etc.
i see from prepping it for paint that it, had at sometime some door bars welded on it. i might make some bolt in ones for it at some point......
i also need to lower the drivers seat somewhat too. guna try and sort that out tomorrow at work.

I guess the cage dates back to the 80's before the regs where updated
a few places sell door bar kits like customcages but I would just grab some rollcage tube and cut it to suit, this makes a template

Slug has that OMP cage Jason has linked to - I got it from ybracing on ebay, while ago now but they are still around so far as I know. I got the door bar kits to go with it, then I got two longer bolt in door bar kits which I used to put transverse bars across the front and main hoop base, plus some extra bits one of which I welded in as a harness bar, the other we used to help lift the engine into the Baur! My plan is to use some of it to weld across the front of the slug once I get it back in the workshop - front splitter, rear spoiler, plastic windows (if Jacko ever brings them), gut door insides, fit a new clutch bearing and a pedal stop so I don't break the new one straight away like the last two!

hmmmmm. door bars......
where would i be able to buy tube locally do you think? theres a metal wholesales place in sheffield what should i be asking for? just cds tube in the same diameter as the cage? what wall thickness? 2mm?

CDS tube in whatever diameter the blue book says, I don't have a copy here, but 2mm may be about right. If you are happy welding to the extent of welding the bolt on saddle in place you might as well save the cash and just cut the tube precisely and weld it direct. The bolt in bars I have had a bracket that welds to the cage and a big bolt that connects to a fitting welded into the end of the bar.

i like the idea of bolt in bars tbh, if i weld it in, i'll have to cut it out, spoiling my good work...... if i ever want to remove it.

well the rack bushes and caps are here.
the new bushes are really squidgy rubber. hmmmm......
so guess what i did tonight? ive cast a mould from the new ones to make my own poly ones!
take a largeish cambelt idler roller from some vag car that fits snugly in the middle of the bush. take some black perspex cut it up and glue gun a box together around the bush and cambelt roller, located by a hole in the perspex.
i picked up this gun tube of builders resin stuff from wickes. ive filled all around the bush. its set and i must admit it looks rather good tbh. guna pick up some poly shit tomorrow from somewhere....... and cast a few bushes see how they look! if there any good, i might sell some.....
