my plans are to restore the body as best as i can. remove all the rust that i find and weld in new steel. repaint it in the same color. then i have a 323i drivetrain to put in it.

If it's any consolation, you aint findin' the rust in unusual places.US rust spots look the same as UK rust spots.Keep at it.
There's one out there with my name on it.

m3- thanks for the kind words. it was a shocker when i pulled the carpet back the first time. the drivers side floor was almost non existent. the biggest drawback for me is lack of available aftermarket replacement steel. walloth and nesch are too pricey for me to get parts to my side of the pond

murran- thats pretty bad. i do feel a bit better now. mine was as bad as floor itself but i had nothing on the firewall. ( knock on wood) apparently the previous owner had a master cylinder go bad on them and they didnt clean up the brake fluid.

ok- i know its been awhile since any updates, but i have been busy and i have proof
rust spot on the outside of the wheel arch
Image
spot primed and awaiting some paint
Image
rear sidemarker removed and ready to be eliminated
Image
hole welded in and primed- had to use a bit of bondo ( i believe you guys call it something different)
Image
these next two are out of order. ive removed the bumper and all the trim. found some spots of rust and hit them with an abrasive pad to get down to bare metal. spots are primed now

Image
the b-pillar showing some small spots

the backside of the b-pillar showing bigger spots
