e21 getrag 245 into e30 M20B25 project?

Post by varden »

I might be up for a reshell and coincidentally i have brought my sis a 1986 non sunroof e30 318i coupe (track day project) and have already picked up a complete M20B25 to go in it ( oh and i already have all the 6cyl brakes, subframes etc from another wrecked e30), all i need is a box to suit the M20, will a 245 from an e21 323i fit?

If i was to buy another 5spd man e21 323i i could kill two birds with one stone so to speak.

What tailshaft would i use? The 318i one or would i need a 6cyl one?

On real oem it states that the close ratio sport box was the same across the e30 and e21 so does this imply that the 6cyl boxes are all interchangeable even if the 245 was never used in the e30?

Ignoring the sport dogleg box.

All m20 5speeds should fit ok with the e30 linkage in the e30 and e30 5 speed propshaft. The only difference is the rear box mounting. I had to modify the e30 crossmount bar to fit tthe E21 so I would guess mods would be needed to fit the E21 box into the E30.

Just remembered the E30 linkage won't fit the top of the E21 box without mods as well.
