E21 race car

Post by briansexsmith »

Hi all

I have just bought a 320i euro to icerace. Iceracing is a wheel to wheel racing with studded tires on flooded ice. The car is a bit of a sad story as it had been imported from Europe without the proper paperwork and has been sitting for 15+ years without a cause. It is in very good shape but some mice got into the wires and the car has not run for 15 years. I am expecting a lot of stuff needs to get broken loose and need new fluids.

Anyway I know the bumpers are a item people want and I don't need them.... how much are they worth?

I am planning on gutting the interior, and lights. I need a good running engine, heater, brakes, seat and suspension. nothing more.

how light do you think I can make it?

also I need some good information on this funny fuel injection. (wiring diagram, explanation how the parts work, troubleshooting)

if I see interest I will post pictures when I get it home in a week or two.

thanks for the help
Brian

I think this was below 750kgs (we have a weigh bridge, just can't remember!), my 315 field racer. Fitted with a 1.8 M10 with weber carb, all glass out except windscreen, no body panels, doors gutted (a lot of weight in there!), no interior. No exhaust at the moment but that wasn't deliberate since it ripped off on the field!

it lasted two years of iceracing and then we rally crossed it this year to finish it off.... RIP GEO storm. Way to much fun!

I went to see the car today. I wanted to make sure my 14" wheels fit... they don't. looks like the E21 is a close to zero offset. i am thinking of getting these http://cgi.ebay.ca/TCS-Universal-Wheel- ... 3361ca633d
they should allow me to run the rims I have and it will get rid of those pain in the ass wheel bolts. Has anyone ever run these on the E21 that can comment if you had any issues.

also the coil, distrbuter cap, rotor and plug wires are missing. Insted of buying a fixing all that I might steal the megasquirt from my summer race car and be done with it.

the good news is the brakes pumped up and hold pressure. not bad for a car that has been sitting for 15 years!

Watch the master, slave & wheel cylinders as once you start using them after any length of time sat idle, they will often pop or develop leaks where the seals have dried out with time.

Hi Brian

I have a E21 320i that i am interested in upgrading. I'd be interested in talking with you to see if there are any parts that I could buy off you.

My name is Geoff. I am also based in Toronto.
