screeching noise from the front off the engine?
screeching noise. seems like the fan. What could it be as only occured today. Anything worrying? Fan? New E21'er so a little lost????? lol

Slipping fan belt probably. Either that or the water pump bearing or alternator is failing.

What's this going to cost me? Major problems?

A fan belt can be adjusted for free! It's the black rubber belt thing that turns with the fan and alternator. Buy a Haynes manual and a Halfrauds tool kit to do basic maintenance.
If the water pump is going you'll be looking at about £30'ish depending on m10 or m20 engine. (4 or 6 cylinder)
