ej20t or rb 20det swap

Post by jlaffo91 »

has anyone seen a RB20 or a EJ20T in an E21. Both ane fairly cheap with a gearbox but I think the EJ20 might have problems fitting in being a boxxer and being very wide. (The tranny will also need the front drive taken out.) I don't mind having to weld new mounts or cut things out but I just don't want to hit something I can't cut. RB seems to be the go but SR20 seems good too. Don't want a V8 due to the weight. any suggestions are helpful and if anyone knows of any write ups it would he a huge help.
cheers -Jordan

There is a guy near me with sr20det in an e30. It's a good swap. I can't remember which gearbox he used.

I imagine the cost of doing a RWD on a boxer is not cheap, and a alloy v8 is not much more weight than a RB20 wuich is not better than any of the bmw m5* engines and will cost more to install.

SR20 is good but £ and ca18 are dirt cheap and as the turbo is on the passanger side easier to install
