Motronic conversion

Post by k-swiss »

Hey I'm just looking for a good wiring breakdown and some photos of what you guys have done for your 2.5 conversions. I have done some searching and have been a bit befuddled by what i have found. Cheers,
Kirin

We did one on mine recently. Take the plunge and buy an engine. I had much help from Murran but its not too hard of a project. 7 wires is all it takes. The rest is nuts and bolts

I got an engine, just been finishing up resealing it. Cut the whole into the glove box and am just amping up. After a bit more searching yours is one of the best "guides" i have seen thus far! Would love a few more pics.

mines the second link down.

my threads a little mixed up really, cus i started by converting the original solex carb'd 320/6 engine to motronic. as the 320/6 ran like poo and was burning shed loads of oil...... having done the motronic on the old engine it ran like a swiss watch and was much more powerful... but made the burning oil thing even worse!...... because of this and wanting more power for drifting i bought a 325i engine and fitted that.
whereas most people (drgonzo etc.) get the 325i engine and do it all in one hit.
as drgonzo pointed out i did help him with it.... but, he could have done it all himself, it just would have took longer and with more messing about asking on here about "what's this? and where does this go? and that's not working!"

just get on with it mate, really.

So can I wire it directly to the plug on the fuse box? Or do I need the harness to it? Currently mine is missing it and the engine is out so I'm kinda hooped.

You need the full E30 engine loom, then you join 7 wires from the plug end into the plug coming out of the E21 fuse box

The E30 loom does'nt plug into the E21 fuse box mate.
Theres a male plug on the end of the E30 loom that connects to a female plug. If you look at the first pic with the white connector blocks on you can see it. That would normally then go to the E30 fuse box, but what you need to do is just cut it off a few inches from the plug then seperate the wires. Then its just a case of matching the colours to a guide. Murrans is the best one to use for that.
If you dont have the male and female plug ends you can just strip it before the connection if that makes sense ?

.....or do you mean you just dont have the E21 loom that plugs into the fuse box ??

That is what I meant. I might just wire it direct in. Since Euro E21s are pretty much none existent over here...
