Newbie from Canberra

Post by AusChris »

Dear all - nice site and a credit to the Administrator. Not new to BMs or e21s, but ten years since I sold my Alpine White 318i.

Since then, a 1985 E30 323i and current ride, a 1994 318is coupe - which is now for sale.

This is what I have bought, but do not yet have it as waiting to be shipped up to Canberra from Melbourne.

Yet to see the mods, but he claims to have spent $27,000 on the restoration, including a race prepared 2.7 litre six from an E30 325e and the usual brakes, lsd, suspension and exhaust.

Claims under 6 secs to 60 mph - As soon as I get it, will post more pics and get it on the Dyno. Regards to all, about 25 degrees celcius today :banana

Grateful for any comments. Regards Chris

Welcome. Hope the car is all you expect it to be. I saw it advertised - a lot of money for an e21 but it should be great. There is going to be a combined NSW/ACT run to Berrima on April 1 (not an April's Fools joke) to showcase some classic BMWs - pre 1990 models. Should be a good day to come and meet other like minded tragics. Enjoy the driving experience.

Hi there Gary - yes a lot saw it advertised but not a lot of money ($4,250 plus $580 to have it shipped) if it is as described. I would love to join a run to Berrima and, by then, should have some BBS replicas, hella smoked lights (on Schmiedmann) and Bonini rear silencers. Do you know the brand of spoiler I have (needs painting)?

Here is link to my car for sale -

Also have an Alpine White 82 323i Auto - drove it back to Canberra - great strong motor, but definitely a long term project - for someone else have decided.

Keep me loop re road trips etc. Chris

Hi Chris,

Welcome here and congrats on the Opal green 323i! Hope to see more photos soon

BTW the deep front spoiler is BBS and could even be ordered at the dealers back then, I even have a BMW accessories catalog with a car in this setup on the front page!

Somehow filesanywhere doesn't really like sharing photos, perhaps you'd better try photobucket or flickr, also see here:

Thanks heaps Jeroen, you must be proud of what you have achieved on this site. Having a look through a few members' cars made me realise how good this spoiler looks when the wheels are fat and the car is lowered. I can't afford genuine BBS, but there is a company here in Australia that does a replica 17*7.5" wheel for under $1,000 a set. That said, I am thinking 15" wheel might be better - any views?

(Car carrier called me yesterday. When they had called the man in Melbourne to arrange a time, they asked him was the height adequate to get onto the truck. Knowing that the clearance is only 100mm and he had received a defect notice, he said he wasn't sure. Anyway, after a few calls, I am pretty confident it will be uplifted today.)

I need filesanywhere as I am setting up an author site for a book I am hoping will be published in the USA next year - Brace for Impact - here is the hero, Jake Walker's, facebook page if there is any interest:

You're right, I might get onto flickr.

Hi Chris,
As Jereon stated the spoiler is a BBS and should suit the car well when painted. As far as wheels are concerned, I have found that 15s suit e21s better than 16s and 17s and are probably more in keeping with the retro nature of the car. Another possibility if you are looking for new wheels are performance superlites. Otherwise keep an eye out for ebay and other sites. Be sure to get the correct offset because it is different to 2002 and e30 wheels and you do not want to get into spacers. Also give some thought to contacting the ACT BMW club for information on their runs and the Berrima day is a joint event between NSW and ACT clubs. We are hoping to get as many classic BMWs along as possible as a preliminary to other events in the future. I will also be organising a couple of runs with the NSW club next year.
I hope that all goes well with the transportation and that you are happy with what arrives - it should be great!

Thanks Gary, I am happy with the spoiler, yes. Also, I agree re 15s - I think that is what I will look for.

See you around and will contact the local chapter. Chris
