there are fiew different driveshafts...
1. 4cil engine with 4 speed gearbox
2. 4cil engine with 5 speed gearbox also sport gearbox
3. 4cil engine with automatic gearbox
4. 6cil engine with 4 speed gearbox
5. 6cil engine with 5 speed gearbox also sport gearbox
6. 6cil engine with automatic gearbox
actual difference is in front part of driveshaft and if it haves 3 or 4 bolts to attach to gearbox
and difference is if it is early or late model...

There is a very good chance they are different but depends on the year of the car.
Your okay you do not have to touch the hub nut to swap the parts over

Now lads don't mess up the language here

Mihajlo refers to propshafts and there he's correct. When we're talking driveshafts, as of Sept 1978 they're all the same and all the same length for all E21's.
All the same? Well, BMW used different setups with fillers on either side (but same length overall) and with two types of flanges on the diff, but generally ur ok.

yes, you are right!

driveshaft's are different, but output shaft's are all the same.
