1.6 or 1.8

Post by Saphire »

I replace the motor, old one was 1.6 from 76' orginal. I put yestarday new one and on head is written 1.6/2 - 1.8/2, how I can know is that 1.6 or 1.8.
Btw the old one is so worn. The rings are brake a piston and the broken parts of rings dameged cylinder and piston...

M10 engines have the engine code and number located on the transmission mating surface, on the left side, just above the starter motor. Engine code would be something like 164KA for a 1.6 4-pot and like 184KA for a 1.8 4-pot. Underneath that code it has a unique 7 digit engine number corresponding with the last 7 digits of the original chassis number. Not 100% sure if this unique number was also used like that on the very early years but that doesn't matter in this case, even though on that number you can also find out what the donor car was.
