Nissan GTR

Post by Mobster »

My best mate bought a Nissan GTR black edition on a 13 plate. 550 BHP....omg, it makes my 911 look likes its going backwards. It's the fastest car I have EVER driven. Totally in love with it. Don't get me wrong, it has no badge appeal and is typically Japanese, but my god it is brutal. 0-60 in 2.84 seconds. Quicker than a Bugatti Veyron. Max speed 196 MPH

I want one, just don't have £74k ! I have to say, if I had that sort of money I would buy a 997 turbo

Yea, we just went out in it. It's very difficult to say to someone who has just paid £74k for a motor, it's too much money.....BUT it feels.....Japaneese. I guess if you have got that sort of money it's fine.

Have yet to try one

someone was trying to persuade Nissan to back me in his GTR to attempt to beat the TT Subaru record set by Higgins the other day

couldn't see the upside (and plenty of downside!)

Have suggested we set a Classic Car record in Butch..........

these new supercars are IMHO unusable on the street and probably why the Toyota GT86 has gained such a folloing

Agree, and all these extremes 99% of the drivers won't be able to handle anyway (even though most drivers think otherwise) bring more danger than driving fun. Same with the AMG's, Holden VXR's and the likes. A lot of horses combined with a lot of electronic aids give people the idea that there are no boundaries anymore. Yes it is nice to play with a lot of horses every now and then, but I like trying getting the most out of a more simple car even better. The E21 of E30 have less horses, but are more fun and more challenging and when used the right way, they're still good competitors. But not to Butch of course!

Driven 2 GTRs now 600 and 1000 bhp versions and they are seriously stupidly fast but once you get the warp factor fun I just dont like them. I would take an AMG every time its just more of an experience to drive, not as fast in any enviroment but it would definatley put a bigger smile on your face on any journey.........obviously in my opinion only :stupidme

I've never really been keen on Datsuns. I did have a 240Z back in the day though and a 160J SSS which was the first car I drove with dogleg 1st gear. I'd have never guessed their values would be as they are now though. Can't deny the performance of the new ones but I prefer older stuff. Just drove through Leeds in my old 02 and it was way cooler than any of the new stuff around me.

i cant believe the price they sell these gtrs for. All that technology and design.i need to experience one.. i totally get why you say you'd rather a Porsche. you need prestige but id need the lairy drama. (i bet you have fun in the Porsche!)

my friends ego 9.. sticks like glue to the road and has 400hp but its problem is it needs to be driven at a rediclous speed to have fun.

you dont need a brz. plenty of z4 / rx8 / 350z to smoke about!

One of the reasons MX5's are so much fun is their handling and balance. My old 325 quid smoker had LSD etc and was great fun. I sold it on Retro Rides and got my 325 quid back and someone else is having just as much fun. I guess you don't have to spend £££££ to have fun and enjoy driving. RX8 are just sooooooo cheap.

The same thing occurred to me around 10 years ago
I was offered a v low mileage E46 M3 by a chum to replace my ageing and very retro Bright red Hartge E30- I did think about it

But like Mark decided I would rather have a car you can feel move around at sensible speeds rather then the E46 M3- which by the time it is moving you are going very quickly indeed and if it lets go you would be doing around 120 mph on the mountain section (no speed limits here) and there are no run-off areas- so you would hit the manx "hedge" like Conor Cummins 2010.

So I kept the Hartge - and since then E46 M3 prices have dropped considerably- all in all I'm glad I did!
