When I pulled off my anti roll bar I failed to notice that one of the two large washers at each end had a rubber ring around the perimeter of one face.


Am I right in assuming this special washer goes on the nut side of the control arm/wishbone with the rubber ring facing the control arm?

Correct, that's where they could cause clunks hitting the control arm.
