320i CIS Questions?
320i CIS Questions?
Pretty new to the BMW world but have owned a couple mk1 and 2 VW's so somewhat familiar with CIS injection. Just bought a '78 320i and it runs down the road ok, doesn't stall or anything but has a varying idle from about 700-1500 RPM and its running very rich (smokes lots of unburned fuel, occasionally backfires, and loads up at about 2000 RPM going down the road) It did have quite a few vacuum leaks when I got it and I've been going through all the vacuum hoses checking for leaky ones and removing and isolating the problem ones because ive heard these cars have very sensitive vacuum systems. After going through that and spraying down connections with carb cleaner while running looking for more leaks it really hasnt changed much. Next question is my car came from Cali and originally had a smog pump and the whole smog system but a P.O removed the pump because it was locked up or something and now all the hoses that went to it are wide open, will this be a contributor to my problems? Since the pump is bad and gone and Georgia doesnt require emissions for a car this age can I throughly and properly remove the rest of the smog components without causing anymore problems? Also the P.O had the idle screw way off to attempt to correct the issues so I've already given that attention and after i fixed some vacuum leaks it improved a tiny bit but its still far too bad to drive. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
