What is this bit

Post by Captain teapot »

Can anyone tell me what this hose is? The one with the red cable tie. Mine has started to make an odd kazoo noise. Is it important ? Can I just block it off? Why the new noise?

Haven't a clue what the hose does, but what's with the sock on the clutch reservoir?

E30 L-Jet engine? Why not just follow it and see where its going? If it started making a hissing noise I guess its leaking, wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the two vacuum hoses that connects to the ignition distributor taking care of the vacuum ignition advance system. And why block it off? Its not that BMW designs their ignition and fuel systems with excess vacuum hoses...

It is the L-jetronic system. The sock keeps the clutch resivior snug and warm in the cold conditions here in Western Australia. the sock really is there because the resivior cap has a crack and I need to get a new cap. The sock keeps the dust out till I can find a new cap. If I disconnect the mystery hose the revs drop slightly. I cannot find a diagram on the net or in the manual telling me what the pipe does. I was going to clamp it on tight to stop the noise, but it has never been clamped before.

It runs off of the pipe that comes out of the rocker cover[img]s583.photobucket.com/user/electriclaffertyland/media/image-4.jpg.html]

Well in that case it's easy to reach, I'd just replace...

Did that, noise gone, but I still have no idea what the hose does.
