hi im new to here, just bought my first e21 after only owning classic beetles, I have water coming in from somewhere and collecting in both front footwells, im not sure what the common areas would be to check but im going to prob replace windscreen seal first as it seems to be holding water in both bottom corners, (press the seal and water seeps out) which brings me onto my next question, where can I get a decent windscreen seal from?? ideally genuine.. any info would be great, thanks, charlie

I'm no professional, but everything I've heard from people who know better say it's worth the money to buy windshield gaskets from the dealer. The fit is proper and you won't have to deal with laying silicone sealant everywhere. I ended up paying right around $140 USD for the front gasket and the trim pieces that go in as well IIRC

I agree, except I've heard from a reliable source that even though this particular seal by this vendor isn't perfect, it is fit for purpose and ~4 times cheaper than OEM

I suspect for my next project I will go for original seals where available and seeing it costing over a grand

thanks for reply mate, I did see this one the other day, it would prob be my last resort, would rather get an oem one, just not sure where to look,

yeah from past experience with the beetles ive learnt when it comes to seals etc repros generally just don't cut it, never a perfect fit, I will try and find a dealer in the uk which sells them, I would hopefully try and reuse the chrome inserts anyway so would just be the seal so might not be too expensive..

Get the part number of RealOEM and head over to bmminiparts.

They source genuine items using original part numbers. I've had a few things off them and they're pretty good. Delivery can be a tad hit and miss but they've yet to let me down on finding a part.

I have no idea how old your chrome trim is, but mine seemed to be original, it was solidified in it's shape (new stuff is fairly flexible). It didn't crack taking out but I bet the possibility is there. Putting the trim back in is a real bitch as well. Don't go out and buy the new trim, but I'd keep a bit of extra money handy in case yours breaks in the process. Pricing in incidentals always is a good call

Did someone bought windshield seal from German company Motorform? Did it fit ok?

Yep keen to know of good rubbers. My screen has been glued in to the rubber that's been glued in to the car .It's now cracked

I'd only buy OEM, too much rubbish around and then you've saved a buck and running into leaks, a broken windscreen, rust of whatever... not worth it

The one i bought from Motorform doesn't fit completely. I could attach couple pictures to show, but don't know how to do it
Next time i'll buy Oem too. This time i'll cut it, because need to register car asap.
