Chevy V8 in my E21?

Post by mcjjordan »

Ok so my mechanic has a small block chevy sat in his workshop spare
He keeps asking if he can fit it in my 316!
I was talking about going the m50/m52 route and he thinks the chevy would be an easier conversion as no ecu etc
And should have a few more ponies
But has anyone done it or heard of doing it ?
My worry is the weight of the thing - id imagine its a heavy engine

DO IT! That's all there is to it.

With alloy heads it won't weight too much more than an m20 I imagine. If I had access to an engine like that I'd do it myself.

Best engine in the world with nearly 100 million made since 1955

Go for It!

Huge selection of aftermarket alloy heads- I would go for a set of Edelbrock with matched manifold from Real Steel- go small Holley a 390 would do the trick. If you want to show me the engine code- if it is an older one I can decode it to tell if it is a 307 base or a 302 screamer, or a boggo 350.

You can sort out an MSD blaster coil - all requires no ECU programming etc

Think it's std as it's the old unit he took out of his street rod - the replacement is supposed to be 450bhp.

The Chev will of course weigh more but will be more set back than the M20 which has at least 2 cylindars in front of front axle line

can't help without codes........................

a good Goodwrench crate engine makes 360 bhp out of the box
