Fuel Sender

Post by Bigmeat »

Anyone know if it's possible to repair the fuel sender?

When I turn the ignition on the fuel gauge jumps to just inside the red but it doesn't go up with a full tank, just stays around the same. I've never run the tank empty so don't know if it will drop.

I've checked the gauge and the wiring from the sender. Earthing out the gauge makes the needle jump to full or the empty light come on depending which connection.
I assume that means the gauge and wiring is okay.

Anything else I can check? I don't have €108 for a new one unfortunately so if it's possible to get it apart ill see if I can fix it.

You can pull it out of the tank, have a small washtub ready for fuel spillage, then see if it makes a difference if you tilt it, or if you hear the floating device move. Just to check it moves freely and has a result on the meter. And I guess someone might have a used sender for you!
