Rev limit when cold

What is the rev limit of a e21 323i when the engine is cold? I've replaced the rotor arm for one that does not have a rev limiter in it. Before it only used to rev about 4800 rpm and now it only goes to about 5100 rpm so there is not much difference. Is it because of the the warm up regulater not allowing the engine not to be redlined or do I have to do something else?

When cold, and I mean oil, not coolant, I wouldn't go with either one of those revs. In fact that he oil has at least 10 kms to warm up to a good temperature. Until then, I would not rev it up over 3200, 3500 rpm. But thats just me.

Yh but I mean why is it not revving up to it's max even when there is no rev limiter?

The rotor normaly has a fixed rev limiter, i think around 6500 rpm.
There is no temperature dependance in it. So even a cold engine should go to 6500 rpm. Which ofcourse isn't wise to do.
So i think you'll have another problem.
Does your dizzy have points or an electronic module?
When points the dwell setting might be off.

Yh it's got an electric control module, it's still running the standard k jetronic

I'm sure it's got a point, but the module is for the spark pattern or sumthing

How should I set the points then, how close do I set the gaps?

If you have the electronic module, there aren't points in the dizzy, you can chexk this easy, with the rotor and cover beneath it pulled you'll see a hex star like thing.

If you have points you won't have the electronic module.
