Hi I've recently signed up to the registry after having brought in the USA a sept 1982 built 320is. My question is; supposedly in the US they made 2500 special 'is' versions of the car which were only available in 3 colours. Black, red and polaris silver. However mine is Bronzit Beige. I'm sure its an original 320is as it has everything on it that an 'is' came with. But is there any definitive way to prove its an is? No one in the Us has seen a bronze beige e21 let alone an 'is'. The paint description is in the engine bay. The chassis number ends, 8387473
Any help much appreciated. Simon

Re: 320is history
Congrats on your buy! As far as I know no one has kept any records on cars delivered in iS spec, they were just built as 320i with some options fitted as standard and basically that's what they are. Being an 82 it is a late example so it is very likely to be an iS and in 82 Bronzit was available as an E21 color.

At the BMW Classic center you can order a certificate to your car, which states how the car was first delivered, options, color, interior and also whom it was delivered to. Then you have all the specs certified bij BMW.
